Edna Mary Wagner, 93, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of Wendel Road, St. Marys, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015, at Elk Haven.
She was born August 17, 1921 in St. Marys, daughter of the late George and Margaret Geyer Schneider. She was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1940.
On November 15, 1947, she married William G. Wagner in the St. Mary’s Church. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1990.
Edna is survived by three children, Thomas (Georgia) Wagner of St. Marys, Ann (James) Vollmer of St. Marys, and William J. (Amy) Wagner of Russell, PA. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Scott, Brian, and Michael Vollmer; Christen Wilson, Mary Fox, Sarah Caskey, and Daniel Wagner; and Drew Wagner and Laura McGraw; as well as 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Norman “Boo” (Anna) Schneider and Donald “Chick” (Joann) Schneider, both of St. Marys; and two sisters, Theresa Gier of Wichita, Kansas and Hilda Kronenwetter of South Plainfield, NJ.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, George, James, and Lawrence Schneider; and three sisters, Alice Schneider, Frances Burfield, and Margaret Eckert.
Edna dedicated herself to raising her family and was known for her prowess as a cook and baker. She most enjoyed her evenings on the front porch of her home on Wendel Road, sharing conversations with family, friends, and passers-by. When her family was of school age, she was a frequent volunteer at the Queen of the World Church. She was an inspiration to her family and friends for enduring disability with grace and determination. In her later years, as a resident of Silver Creek Terrace and Elk Haven Nursing Home, she enjoyed conversations with her many visitors, especially recollecting the joys of her childhood on Spruce Street.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at 12:00 PM, with the Rev. Richard Allen, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.
Memorials in Edna’s honor may be made to the Queen of the World Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
