Donald J. Glatt, 81, of 410 Washington Street, St. Marys, passed away Monday, February 27, 2017, at Penn Highlands DuBois, after a lengthy illness.
He was born December 5, 1935, in St. Marys, son of the late Theodore J. and Margaret Oravis Glatt. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys Schools. He was co-owner of the former Bestway, Inc.
On August 13, 1960, in the Sacred Heart Church, Donald married Judith M. Smith, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Amy Bloam and her husband Jay of DuBois; three sons, Mark Glatt and his wife Melanie of Palmer, AK, Sam Glatt and his wife Barb of St. Marys, and John Glatt and his wife Leslie of Henrico, VA; and by 12 grandchildren, Jacob Glatt, Tanya Glatt, Kyle (Raquel) Bloam, Rachel Glatt, Elizabeth Glatt, Simon Glatt, Victoria Glatt, Anna Glatt, Katlyn Glatt, Matthew Glatt, Margaret Glatt, and Joshua Glatt.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Theodore Glatt.
Donald was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and was a Veteran of the US Army, serving from 1955 to 1957. He was a retired member of the Crystal Fire Department, serving for over 20 years. Donald was a member of the American Legion, the CMF, the BPO Elks, the PFL, and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and barbequing.
There will be no visitation.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Friday, March 3, 2017, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
