David Sylvester Pistner, 85, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 24, 2026 following a 6 ½ month struggle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born August 3, 1941, in St. Marys, son of the late Alvin and Esther (Meyer) Pistner
He joined the United States Army after graduating in 1959 from Central Catholic High School. His duties were affiliated with the artillery division. Upon his completion of service, he joined Pistner Bros. under his father’s Jeep dealership, where he retired in 2007.
On March 18, 1977, in Busti, NY, he married Nancy Lee Bauer (Miller) Pistner. They were to celebrate 50 years of devotion to each other.
Their children: Kimberly Cashmer (Dave), Jennifer Greenthaner (Jeff “Greenie”), and step-son, Jeffrey Miller, were the meaning of life to him. Four grandchildren: Elizabeth Miller Kephart (Brent), Nichole Miller Anderson (Garret), Michaela Cashmer, Dr. Mitchell Cashmer, Mackenzie Cashmer, Cody Greenthaner, and Ellie Greenthaner; two great-grandchildren: Owen and Madelyn; his beloved brother, Alvin “Bups” Pistner (Shirley) and cherished sister, Joan Emmert (Dick), as well as a sister-in-law, Bonnie Pistner.
With all the Pistners having big families, David considered himself blessed that the cousins, nieces, and nephews were all so very close. He cherished his time with his extended family treeing and at any event with his parents, aunts, and uncles. He loved his family immensely and in return, he was loved deeply by all.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by four brothers: Kenneth (Barbara), Leroy, Robert, and Ronald (Doris) Pistner.
David was a quiet and gentle man with an English humor about himself, always adding a laugh at the end of a conversation. He was an unselfish man, always willing a hand to help anyone who would drop off anything that needed fixed. David could repair just about anything. He helped the Bavarian Hills Golf Course for many years in maintenance and enjoyed being around the crew. He looked forward to his time with friends, golfing, bowling, and attending bowling states. Along with his brothers and other family members, he built rental homes which were lacking in the St. Marys area.
