Clifford R. Snyder

Clifford R. Snyder, 78, of St. Marys, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014, at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

He was born March 11, 1936 in St. Marys, son of the late Joseph and Caroline Schatz Snyder. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1954.  He was a former employee of the Stackpole Carbon Company, DePrator’s Beverage, Oak Manor, and the Dickinson Center.

On September 30, 1961 in the Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg, he married Catherine A. Simchick, who survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Mary Schatz and her husband Paul of St. Marys, Karen McKenna and her husband John of St. Marys, and Diane Bedont and her husband Scott of Windber; two sons, Paul Snyder and his partner David Rose of Harrisburg and Adam Snyder of St. Marys; seven grandchildren, Mark Schatz, Julie (Mrs. Justin) Hedlund, Andrew Schatz, Nicole Snyder, Megan McKenna, Kate Bedont, and Ryan Bedont; two great granddaughters, Jackie and Jenna Schatz; one brother, Thomas Snyder of St. Marys; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Blessel and Rita Snyder, who passed away in infancy.

Mr. Snyder was a member of the St. Mary’s Church where he served as an usher. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and was a member of the CMF.  He enjoyed playing cards, baseball and softball and was a coach for Knothole and Little League.  He was a committee member of Boy Scout Troop 200 and helped with the Rotary Club Auctions.  He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Cleveland Browns fan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Mary’s Church on Friday, October 3, 2014, at 12:00 PM, with the Rev. Alfred Patterson, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Thursday, October 2, 2014, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
