Clifford R. Oertly

Clifford Raymond Oertly, 88 of 133 Hayes Road, Kersey, passed away Saturday, October 23, 2021, at Penn Highlands DuBois, after a brief illness.

He was born November 11, 1932, in Johnsonburg, son of the late Otto and Ivy Weir Oertly.  Clifford was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School, Class of 1950.  He retired from PennTech.

On January 17, 1953, in the United Methodist Church in Johnsonburg, Clifford married the late Yvonne Holmquist, who preceded him in death on January 19, 2015.

He is survived by his daughter, Lu Ann Skrzypek and her husband Terrence of Kersey; his son, Raymond Oertly of Portland Mills; six grandchildren: April Becker, Ashley West (Jonathan), Michelle Wicks (Jeremiah), Tara O’Rourke (Domenic), Sabrina Blessel (Peter), and Misty Johnson (Brad); eleven great-grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Clifford was preceded in death by four sisters: Margie Armstrong, Dorothy Halquist, Betty Brinkley, and Ruthie Oertly; four brothers: Edward, Leon, LeRoy and Robert Oertly; a granddaughter, Jennifer Nicole; and a grandson-in-law, Jacob Becker.

Clifford was a hard worker, enjoyed to hunt and fish, he was an avid Bingo and Cinch player, and could be found in his garden during the warmer months.  He was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in St. Marys, a lifelong member of Johnsonburg and Kersey Fire Departments where he directed traffic, the Brockway Lions Club, the St. Marys Eagles Club, the Horton Twp. Sportsman Club, a past member of the Johnsonburg School Board, and the Dagus Mines American Legion, Post 511.  He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving our country as a medic in Germany during the Korean Conflict.

A memorial service will be announced at a future date.
