Christine M. Haberberger

Jan 4, 1948 — Oct 20, 2026

Christine M. “Chris” Haberberger, 78, of St. Marys, passed away peacefully on Tuesday October 20th, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born January 4, 1948, in St. Marys, she was the daughter of the late Raymond B. “Goona” and Marguerite “Betty” Ambuske Frank. A lifelong resident of St. Marys, Chris graduated from Elk County Christian High School in 1965.

On June 22nd, 1968, she married Byron L. Haberberger, the love of her life, at Queen of the World Church. Together, they shared 58 years of marriage.

Chris was a dedicated and compassionate nurse who took great pride in caring for others. Throughout her career, she worked at Andrew Kaul Memorial Hospital, Elk Haven Nursing Home, and St. Joseph Monastery, where she especially cherished caring for the sisters.

A woman of deep faith, Chris's Catholic beliefs guided her life, and she found great joy in sharing God's word with others. She was also a gifted writer and storyteller whose warmth and memorable stories delighted family and friends.

Above all, Chris loved her family. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother of five, she especially enjoyed gathering loved ones together. Her nieces, nephews, and neighborhood children fondly remember summer days spent at her swimming pool. She also treasured her time at Nantasket Beach in Massachusetts, where she made many happy memories.

Chris will be remembered for her strong faith, generous heart, and the love she shared so freely with those around her.

In addition to her husband, Byron, she is survived by her daughter, Dr. Tam Reed of Florida, and her son, Scott Haberberger (Jackie) of St. Marys; five grandchildren, Alexander, Abigail, Luke, Gabriel, and Jake; three brothers, Raymond “Goona” Frank (Mary Ellen) of St. Marys, Glenn Frank (Kerrin) of Boston, Massachusetts, and Timothy Frank (Amy) of St. Marys; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Sally Smith, and sister-in-law, Becky Dallasen Frank.
