Bette A. Stewart, 92, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home, and formerly of 903 South Michael Road, St. Marys, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at Elk Haven.
She was born March 21, 1925, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Bernard and Theresa Wendel Gerber. Bette was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1943. She had worked with her husband at Stewart’s Jewelers in St. Marys.
On August 24, 1946, in St. Marys, Bette married Girard W. Stewart, who preceded her in death on May 26, 2003.
She is survived by four daughters, Linda Mohr of Hanover, PA, Carol McClard of Simpsonville, SC, Lois Nedzinski and her husband David of St. Marys, and Peggy Faulk and her husband Michael of St. Marys; three sons, David G. Stewart and his wife Nancy of Emporium, Gary W. Stewart and his wife Mary of St. Marys, and Warren D. Stewart of St. Marys; 17 grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and by a sister, Verna Peter of Grand Island, NY.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Francis, Floyd, and Denny Gerber.
Bette was a member of the Queen of the World Church. She was the manager of the Hospital Resale Shop for over 20 years. Bette liked to garden and travel, and she especially enjoyed her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Saturday, August 19, 2017, at 10:30 AM, with the Rev. Jeff Noble, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday, August 18, 2017, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.
