Bernie Meyer

May 10, 1940 — July 25, 2025

Bernie Meyer, 85, of 1364 Rosely Road, St. Marys, passed away unexpectedly Friday, July 25, 2025.

Bernie was born May 10, 1940 in St. Marys, son of the late Charles and Regina Young Meyer. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys schools. He was employed as a mechanic by the Ford garage for sixteen years and PennDot for twenty-eight years, where he retired in 2000. He also could be found in his garage until late at night working on family and friends’ cars.

On August 26, 1961, in Queen of the World Church, Bernie married Mary Vollmer, who survives. They were blessed to share sixty-three years of marriage.

In addition to his loving wife, Bernie is survived by his son Russell, and his wife, Lisa and his daughter, Jill Carlson, and her husband, Jeff; two grandchildren: Cory Tamburlin and Kyle Carlson; a sister-in-law, Gretchen Meyer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Bernie was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Leander (Marg) Meyer and a sister Alice (Walt) Snelick.

Bernie had a passion for anything mechanical and could fix just about anything. If you had a mechanical issue, he was your guy. He loved working on tractors as he bought, fixed, and sold many over the years. Bernie loved camp. When he wasn’t home you knew you could find him at camp, especially on Friday playing cards with the guys and on Sunday with the family, where you would always hear “I’ll bet you a quarter on the side”. He kept an eye on the rails to trails for downed trees, put a covered bench, and built the Benzinger Siding with his crew for passersby to rest or get out of the weather. He also enjoyed going for rides and tractor shows with the guys where there was usually a bet about something for a supper. He often took his own tractors to these shows.

He will be missed by many.
