Bernard J. “Sonny” Greenthaner

Bernard J. “Sonny” Greenthaner, 94, of 1716 Bucktail Trail, St. Marys, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014, at the Elk Regional Health Center after a brief illness.

He was born September 4, 1919 in Cadogan, PA, son of the late Fred and Mary Kurzinger Greenthaner.  He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended schools in Cadogan.  He was a retired employee of Modern Dairy.

On June 20, 1946, he married Helen Nagy who preceded him in death in January 2006.

He is survived by three sons, Arch Greenthaner and his wife Nancy of Blue Springs, MO, Thomas Greenthaner and his wife Norma of California, and Timothy Greenthaner and his wife Katie of Kersey; a son-in-law, Edward Zaremba of East Lansing, MI; seven grandchildren, Jeff Greenthaner, Sheri Tristan, Jessica Sheppard, J. P. Greenthaner, Terah Zaremba, Brenda Greenthaner, and Daniel Greenthaner; and by six great grandchildren.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Zaremba; a son, Raymond Greenthaner; three sisters, Anastasia Fair, Cecelia Dorchack, and Adeline Wilhelm; and by three brothers, Raymond Greenthaner, Arthur Greenthaner, and Leo Greenthaner.  He was the last member of his immediate family.

Mr. Greenthaner was a member of the Queen of the World Church.  He enjoyed gardening and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirate fan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Thursday, February 13, 2014, at 12:00 PM, with the Rev. Richard Allen, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Wednesday (2/12/2014) from 5:00 till 8:00 PM.
