August F. “Augie” Werneth

August F. “Augie” Werneth, 87, of 131 Bestway Street, St. Marys, passed away Monday, May 29, 2017, at Penn Highlands DuBois, after a brief illness.

He was born December 28, 1929, in St. Marys, son of the late August J. and Magdalena Hoffman Werneth. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys Schools.  He was a retired employee of Metco, retiring in 2014, and was a former employee of Industrial Steel and Pipe.

On June 12, 1992, in the St. Mary’s Church, Augie married Helen Herzing Sharrow, who survives. He is also survived by four daughters, Kathy Clausen and her husband Richard of St. Marys, Debbie Bowsers and her husband Casey of Cranberry, PA, Susan Stauffer and her husband Mark of St. Marys, and Cindy Herzing and her husband Patrick of St. Marys; three sons, Ricky Werneth and his wife Mary Lou of St. Marys, Terry Werneth and his wife Janice of Meadville, and Michael Werneth and his wife Lisa of St. Marys; 12 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.  Also surviving are three step children, Barbara Auman and her husband Gary of St. Marys, James Sharrow and his wife Betty of St. Marys, and Mary Boose and her husband Ron of Bedford, PA; eight step grandchildren; 11 step great grandchildren; and by three sisters, Martha Pistner of St. Marys, Margaret Floravit of St. Marys, and Mary Herzing of Jamestown, NY.

In addition to his parents, Augie was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Butler in 1965, and his second wife, Gloria Klancer in 1978. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Gary Werneth in 1992 and Joseph Werneth in infancy; a daughter, Pamela Werneth in infancy; two grandchildren, Sheila Werneth and Danial Ruffner; one great grandson; a sister, Magdalena Amacher; and by a brother, Clarence Werneth.

Augie was a member of the St. Mary’s Church. He enjoyed gardening and his job, working until he was 84 years old.  He was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates Fan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Mary’s Church on Thursday, June 1, 2017, at 12:00 PM, with the Rev. Alfred Patterson, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Thursday morning, from 10:30 until 11:30 AM.
