Arthur E. Meyer, 84, of 1122 South Michael Road, St. Marys, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at his home after a brief illness.
He was born April 6, 1929 in St. Marys, son of the late George and Julia Salter Meyer, Sr. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys schools. He was a retired employee of the Stackpole Carbon Company, retiring in 1992 with over 40 years of service.
On July 30, 1949, in St. Marys, he married Dorothy “Jean” Zimmett, who preceded him in death on February 20, 2005.
He is survived by seven daughters, Nancy Frey (Ives) of St. Marys, LouAnne Bloam (Charles “Bud”) of St. Marys, Laura DeLullo (James) of Kersey, Darlene Larkin of St. Marys, Susan Weinzierl (David) of St. Marys, Stephanie Meyer of St. Marys, and Lisa Lyons (Shawn) of St. Marys; four sons, Jerome A. Meyer (Kathy) of St. Marys, Stanley M. Meyer (Kitty) of St. Marys, Scott G. Meyer (Janie) of St. Marys, and Troy A. Meyer (Krista) of Weedville; 26 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Griffin of Alden, NY and Rita VanAlstyne of St. Marys; and two brothers, Raymond “Pete” Meyer of St. Marys and Ellsworth “Buddy” Meyer (Germaine) of St. Marys.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Meyer, in infancy; a son-in-law, Dana Larkin; a grandson, Matthew Meyer; a sister, Hazel Gaffey; and eight brothers, George “Sonny” Meyer, James L. Meyer, Merrill Meyer, Francis “Tuttie” Meyer, Floyd “Buzzy” Meyer, Robert “Bob” Meyer, Sr., Harold “Eddie” Meyer, and his twin brother who died in infancy.
Mr. Meyer was a member of the Queen of the World Church, Camp Owners Association, and the St. Marys Snowmobile Association. He was a mechanic, carpenter, and jack-of-all-trades. He enjoyed his visits to Salamanca and was a great family man.
There will be no visitation.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Richard Allen, Pastor, and the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, concelebrating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
