Anthony John D’Amore Sr., 76, of 977 Johnsonburg Road passed away at his residence on December 25, 2011 following a brief illness.
Tony was born June 11, 1935, the son of the late Nicola and Michelina Colontonio D’Amore. He was educated in the St. Marys school systems, graduating from Central Catholic High School with the class of 1953.
Tony married his wife, Lois Forster in the St. Mary’s Church on Feburary 25, 1966. She survives.
Tony leaves behind four children: Nick D’Amore of Pittsburgh ; Melanie Phillips and her husband, Mark of Pennington, NJ ; Marcy Davis and her husband, Justin, of Sewickley, PA; and Tony D’Amore Jr. and his wife, Sarah, of St. Marys. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Cameron and Amelia Phillips, Anastasia, Liliana and Elaina Davis, and Abigail D’Amore. Tony is also survived by a brother, Joseph D’Amore, and his wife, Mary Jane of St. Marys, and two sisters, Dora Mahoney and Theresa Geitner and her husband, Patrick, all of St. Marys. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Marge Forster of St. Marys, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Carmin D’Amore, a sister-in-law, Kathleen D’Amore, two sisters, Amelia D’Amore in childhood and Lucy D’Amore in infancy, a brother-in-law, Jerry Mahoney, a niece, Kimberly Forster, a nephew, Tim Pichler, and a great nephew, Christopher Forster.
Tony spent his working years at St. Marys Carbon and Pure Industries, retiring in 1998. He was the owner of D’Amore Machine Shop in St. Marys from 1979 to the present. Tony served his country in the U.S. Army and was recalled to serve during the Cuban Crisis. He was a member of the American Legion and the St. Mary’s Church.
Tony’s enjoyment in life was helping others in any way he could. He often helped by working at the Christian Food Bank and serving as kitchen help with Lois for the St. Marys Parish bereavement dinners. He loved visiting with his kids and grandkids and also enjoyed trips to Atlantic City a couple of times a year. His last four years of winter weather were spent in St. Cloud, Florida. Summers were filled with enjoyment of his extensive vegetable garden. He was a loving husband and father and Papa to the grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Mary’s Church on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 10:00 AM with the Rev. Meinrad Lawson, OSB, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
