Ann D. Young, 94, formerly of 109 Bayberry Road, St. Marys, passed away peacefully November 27, 2016 at Pinecrest Manor, surrounded by her family.
She was born July 26, 1922, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, daughter of the late Frank and Frances Witkowski Wilkes. She was a graduate of Hanover High School in Wilkes-Barre and had been a resident of St. Marys since 1945. She was a retired employee of the Stackpole Carbon Company, retiring after many years of service.
On November 17, 1945, in the Church of Nativity in Plymouth, PA, she married James C. Young who preceded her in death on January 8, 1971.
Ann is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Schwabenbauer and her husband Matthew of Kersey; two sons, James W. Young and his wife Deanna and Kenneth A. Young, both of St. Marys; eight grandchildren, Beth (Robert) Sappe of Phoenix, MD, Ryan (Tricia) Schwabenbauer of Severna Park, MD, Janis Young of Fairfax, VA, Eric (Sabina) Young of LeGrangeville, NY, Barbara (Steve) Groba of Scott Township, PA, Julie Young of Dormont, PA, Cole (Missy) Young of Northumberland, PA and Marissa Young of Lexington, KY; eight great grandchildren, Ethan and Logan Sappe, Mary, Calvin, and Louie Schwabenbauer, and Noah, Lily, and Zachary Young; and by a sister, Theresa Hockenbury of Wilkes-Barre.
In addition to her husband and parents, Ann was preceded in death by a great grandson, Ryan Matthew Schwabenbauer, Jr. on January 7, 2011; a sister, Elizabeth Wisniewski; and by five brothers, Frank, Joseph, John, Edward, and Walter Wilkes.
Ann was a member of the Queen of the World Church and the Rosary Altar Society. Her ultimate love was her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking, bingo, taking bus trips, going to the casino, and volunteering.
There will be no visitation.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Richard Allen, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
