Alva J. “Monnie” Kirkland, 85, of 185 Center Sreet, Elk Towers, died Sunday, November 25, 2012, at Christ the King Manor in DuBois after a brief illness.
She was born March 21, 1927 in St. Marys, daughter of the late David W. and Isabelle Krieg Caskey. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. She was a former employee of Airco Speer, and retired from GTE Sylvania and also worked at Keystone Carbon Company, and retired from Keystone.
She was married to Albert E. Kirland, who preceded her in death in 2000.
She is survived by a daughter, Isabell (Daniel J.) Boob of Spring Mills; a son, Albert E. “Kirk” (Stephanie) Kirkland of St. Marys; four grandchildren, Lisa Auman, Jason Mildrew, Kayla Kirkland and Brian Kirkland; and two sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” Meacham of St. Marys and Kathy (Jerry) Meyer of St. Marys.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Delores “Lori” Schreiber, Joan Wortman, Bertie Chiappelli, and in infancy Isabelle Caskey; and by five brothers, David W. Caskey Jr., Donald A. Caskey, John J. “Hunce” Caskey, and in childhood Robert and William Caskey.
Mrs. Kirkland was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, enjoyed her dog Peachey, and also enjoyed playing cards and bowling.
There will be no visitation.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 10:00 AM with the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, Pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
