Almerinda S. “Al” Ewing

Almerinda S. “Al” Ewing, 95, of 603 Virginia Road, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at Penn Highlands Elk, after a brief illness.

She was born October 15, 1921, in Johnsonburg, daughter of the late Ralph and Serafina Marrone DiNardo. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School, Class of 1940.  She was a former employee of the Stackpole Carbon Company and retired from Sears Roebuck Company.

On May 9, 1953, in the Holy Rosary Church, she married Burnell C. Ewing, who preceded her in death on May 27, 1994.

Al is survived by a son, Thomas Ewing and his wife Debbie of State College; two grandchildren, Leslie Ewing and Paul Ewing and his wife Megan; and by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Casciani and Josephine Torchia; and by six brothers, James, Tom, Tony, John, George, and Noah DiNardo. She was the last member of her immediate family.

Al was a member of the St. Mary’s Church, the Catholic Daughters of America, and the Maria Jose Society. She was also a member of the St. Marys Senior Center and the Red Hat Society.  Al volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the American Red Cross, United Way, the St. Marys Senior Center, Elk Haven Nursing Home, and the St. Mary’s Church Bereavement Dinners.  She enjoyed playing Scrabble and cards.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Mary’s Church on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Alfred Patterson, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Parklawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday, January 27, 2017, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to a favorite charity.
