Alfred M. “Al” Leithner, 88, of Old State Road, Daguscahonda, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at Penn Highlands DuBois following a brief illness.
He was born November 14, 1937, in Ridgway, son of the late Alfred and Eleanor Krieg Leithner. He was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Ridgway High School, Class of 1956. Al worked as a die setter for Keystone Carbon Company for many years. He continued working as a die setter instructor at North Central Regional Planning & Development Commission until his retirement.
On September 26, 1959, in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Al married the love of his life, the late Margaret “Peggy” Pfeufer, who preceded him in death on April 9, 2017.
Al is survived by two sons, David Leithner (Debbie) of Arizona and Gary Leithner (Rose Anne) of Ridgway; eight grandchildren: Nathan Meyer, Angie Uhl (Josh), Gina Meyer, Shannon McCully, Mandie Cooper (Jeff), Jacob Leithner (Jordan), Lee Ann Fenton (Ryan), and Anthony Leithner (Emma); eight great-grandchildren: Alexis, Lilly, Adalynn, Molly, Henry, Josh, Leo, and Joanna; a son-in-law, Andy Meyer (Melissa); sisters-in-law, Ann Hooper and Helen Schremp; and a brother-in-law, Anthony Pfeufer (Jan), and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Al was preceded in death by a son, Michael Leithner in 1999 and a daughter, Christine Meyer in 2004. He was also preceded in death by a brother in infancy, Donald Leithner, and in-laws, Tom Hooper, Skip Schremp, and Mary Lee and Ray Gabor.
Al was passionate about golf, playing the game into his 80s. He and Peggy looked forward to spending their winters in sunny Florida at their second home where they created many fun memories with new friends from all over the United States and Canada. They enjoyed traveling, especially visiting their Florida friends in their hometowns. In his younger years, Al enjoyed playing softball, hunting, and gardening. He was well-known for and will be fondly remembered for his “flat-top” haircut.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Sacred Heart Church, 337 Center Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 on Saturday, July 18 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be held in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to Elk County Catholic School System, 600 Maurus Street, St. Marys, PA 15857, St. Leo’s School, 125 Depot Street, Ridgway, PA 15853, or to an organization of one’s choosing.
