Alberta M. “Birdie” Hoffman, 95, a resident of Pinecrest Manor and formerly of 1032 South Michael Road, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at the Pinecrest Manor after a lengthy illness.
She was born April 25, 1918 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Anthony and Rose Krieg Emmert. She was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys Parochial Schools.
On October 29, 1936, in the St. Mary’s Church, she married Wilfred J. “Biff” Hoffman, who preceded her in death on June 15, 1982.
Mrs. Hoffman was a member of the Queen of the World Church, Rosary Altar Society and CD of A. She loved music and dancing, enjoyed playing cards, especially cinch, and enjoyed being with her family.
She is survived by five daughters, Ruth Wendel of St. Marys, Susan Huff and her husband Llewellyn of Weedville, Barbara Brennen and her husband Bradley of St. Marys, Mary Eckert and her husband Gary of Cortland, NY, and Nancy Conway and her husband Lawrence of St. Marys; 17 grandchildren, Joanne Herzing, Cynthia Klein, Donald Wendel, Kevin Wendel, Craig Huff, Brian Huff, Michele Werner, Troy Huff, Tammy Todd, Cheryl Giacomino, Amy DeCarolis, Denise Pfingstler, Vicky Rupprecht, Molly Harrington, Kim Kelchner, Timothy Conway and Leanne Ryan; 33 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law Edward Hoffman of Coudersport.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Elmer Wendel; a brother, Walter Emmert; and three sisters, Evelyn Scolari, Monica Heilberger and, in infancy, Ruth Emmert. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 10:00 AM with the Rev. Richard Allen, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday, December 20, 2013, from 5:00 till 8:00 PM.
