Agnes M. Buchheit

March 21, 2017 — May 8, 1925

Agnes M. Buchheit, 91, of 599 Fillmore Road, St. Marys, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at the Elk Haven Nursing Home after a brief illness.

She was born May 8, 1925, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Leo and Margaret Breindel Rettger. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1943.

On August 28, 1948, in the St. Mary’s Church, she married Earl J. Buchheit, who preceded her in death on November 1, 2003.

Agnes is survived by four daughters, Kathleen Lecker and her husband Michael of St. Marys, Janet Hopkins of Erie, Pauline Buchheit of Lancaster, and Sally Buchheit of Lititz, PA; seven sons, Peter Buchheit and his wife Karen of Bradford, Thomas Buchheit and his wife Karen of Williamsport, Joseph Buchheit and his wife Judy of Bryan, TX, Ronald Buchheit of Bradford, Jeffrey Buchheit and his wife Tina of St. Marys, Christopher Buchheit of Vancouver, WA, and Michael Buchheit of St. Marys. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Ryan Lecker, Marissa Buchheit, Jessica Buchheit, Patrick Buchheit, Joshua Buchheit, Zachary Buchheit, Nicole Scholl, David Buchheit, Adam Buchheit, Laura Buchheit, and Renee Buchheit; two great grandchildren, Huntley Lecker and Riley Scholl; a brother, Paul Rettger of Pittsburgh; and by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Agnes was preceded in death by five sisters, Margaret Rettger, Gertrude Brechtel, Theresa Knouse, Sr. M. Eileen Rettger, OSB, and Marie Rettger in infancy; seven brothers, Vincent, Leo, Rev. Emmeran, OSB, Benedict, Charles, George, and Joseph Rettger; and by a son-in-law, Christopher Hopkins.

Agnes was a member of the St. Mary’s Church and the St. Anne’s Society. She was also a member of the Altar Society and the St. Marys Senior Center.  Agnes enjoyed playing cards and was very devoted to her Catholic faith.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Mary’s Church on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at 12:00 PM, with Rev. Alfred Patterson, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday, March 24, 2017, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
