Irvin A. “Tudo” Serafini, 86, of Fairview Road, Kersey, passed away Thursday, August 4, 2022, at Penn Highlands Elk, following a lengthy illness.
He was born August 31, 1935, in Cardiff, PA, son of the late Joseph and Theresa Calliari Serafini. Irvin was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from Huston Twp. High School, Class of 1955.
On January 29, 1955, in St. Stanislaus Church in Tyler, PA, Irvin married Anna V. Greco, who survives. They celebrated 67 years of marriage this past year.
Irvin was employed for over 40 years with Stackpole and Carbone of America where he retired in 1998. He was a member of the St. Boniface Church. Irvin was a life-time member of the Association of Professional Ball Players of America. Irvin was a talented saxophone player. He was the leader of the band “The Counts” and also played with the band, “Friday Nite Gang”. Irvin enjoyed all sports. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Irvin was a member of Dads Horseshoe Club and was a league bowler with Olympic Lanes.
Irvin played baseball for DuBois Legion where he was scouted by many organizations. In the summer of 1954, Irvin played for the Boston Red Sox. He then went on to sign a professional baseball contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates on September 15, 1954. After graduating high school, Irvin went on to play professional baseball for the next four years with the Pirates. Throughout his life, Irvin managed many local baseball teams and passed on his knowledge and passion of the sport to many; especially his grandchildren. He was proud of his Italian heritage, but most of all, his family.
Along with his loving wife, he is survived by five daughters: Cindy Brown (Robert) of Point of Rocks, MD, Julie Anderson (Danny) of Greenville, NC, Gina Haupricht (Ken) of Johnsonburg, Barbara Spinda (Kenneth McGarvey) of Clearfield, and Linda Lovett (John) of St. Marys; 13 grandchildren: Tricia Durant (Eli), Eric Mitchell (Kaitlyn), Dylan Brown (Camile Maddow), Cory Anderson, Arianna Anderson, Erika Anderson, Kenneth Haupricht (Abby Parana), Jamie LaBenne (Ryan), Angela Spinda (Jason Brosky), Maria Spinda (Mike Beimel), Wes Harshbarger (Brittany), Rocco Harshbarger, and Nicole Pistner (Aaron); one step-grandson, Zach Lovett (Katie); 21 great-grandchildren; his sister, Agnes Winkler of Penfield; and by a sister-in-law, Anna Serafini of DuBois and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mabel Riccadonna; and by two brothers, Guido and Leno Serafini.
A Funeral Service will be celebrated in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at 9:30 AM, with the Rev. Kevin Holland, officiating. Burial will follow in Morningside Cemetery in DuBois.
Visitation will be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday, August 12, 2022, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
