David C. Larkin | 41

September 18, 1980 - October 16, 2021

David C. Larkin, 41, of North St. Marys Street, St. Marys, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Chautauqua Lake.

He was born September 18, 1980, in St. Marys, son of Darlene Meyer Larkin, who survives of St. Marys, and the late Dana Larkin, who passed away in June 2003.  David was a lifelong resident of St. Marys, was a 1998 graduate of St. Marys Area High School, as well as a 2003 graduate of Penn State University.  He was currently a real estate agent at Elk County Real Estate.

In addition to his mother, Darlene Larkin, David is survived by his brother, Dustin Larkin of Kersey; his nieces, Lola and Lux Larkin; and by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Besides his father, Dana Larkin, David was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Arthur and Jean Meyer; and by his paternal grandparents, Charles and Patricia Larkin.

David was the epitome of what growing up in a small community can flourish into.  He took pride in the history and heritage of the community and the people that make it.  He was involved in countless organizations including the Stackpole Hall Foundation, St. Marys Heritage Preservation Group, Junior Achievement, Shadetree Commission, the Fireworks Committee, Ridgway Heritage Council, St. Marys Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Elk County, ECCOTA, Young Professionals Group, CEC, Red Cross, and more.  Through his personality and perseverance, David managed to network and connect with people, families, and businesses that stretched far beyond Elk County.  He believed in supporting our local small businesses and frequented places like New Horizons Healthy Foods.  He was a Christian by faith and had a strong personal relationship with God.  He enjoyed spending his Sunday mornings watching the Tri County Church services.  His heart was as big as his friends list and family tree, whose roots spread throughout Elk County.  David enjoyed traveling and discovered a passion for camping.  He took health of mind, body, and soul seriously and strived to take the best care of himself and those around him.  He adored his two nieces and was adored by so many.  He appreciated art and décor and was drawn to architecture from a very young age.  David is irreplaceable in our hearts and in our community.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service which will be held at the Camp Owners, 300 Camp Owners Road, St. Marys, on Friday, October 22, 2021, at 12:00 PM, with the Rev. Ross Miceli officiating.  Immediately following the service, a luncheon will be held to gather and pay tribute to David and all that he has brought to our lives.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Elk County Community Foundation, for the David Larkin Scholarship, PO Box 934, St. Marys, PA  15857.

  1. So sorry for your loss, gone to soon. Comfort knowing he is in God’s arms.

  2. I met David 15 years ago when he called me to interview me as a Realtor. He said he was considering the business and chose me to interview. That was the beginning of not only a business relationship but an ever evolving friendship. We always checked on each other. We had many heart to hearts over the years. David put his family first. He was always talking about his Mom, brother and nieces with such love. His friends were many as he gave so much to them. His business was a huge part of his life and like his volunteer jobs, he gave it his all. The little time he had left and I mean little was for himself. He packed a lot of life in his 41 years and touched many. He has left a huge hole in our hearts. May he have found the peace he deserves.

  3. My dear nephew and Godson, David. Life just won’t be the same here without you. Arms of comfort to Darlene and Dustin and Family. And thank you all for reaching out with words or actions of comfort. He will be greatly and forever missed.

  4. Beautiful service.
David was good friend, always caring. I Saw him Friday before he left showing me he could get through my gate without opening it. Love to Dustin and Darlene.

  5. So very sorry Darlene
    Hugs to you
They’re not supposed to leave before us!

  6. Darlene and family,

There are no words to express how so sorry I am for your loss.
Hold those special memories close to your heart…..No one can ever take them away.
Sending many thoughts, hugs and prayers!

  10. Darlene, Dustin, and all of your family, I can not begin to express how very sorry I am and you truly have my most sincere heartfelt condolences. 11. I am so sorry for your family’s loss. I remember going on a band trip with David and many other friends to Kennywood. I moved out of the area in the late 90s before our senior year but three years ago he welcomed me to the reunion. I’ll never forget that smile David had all the years I’ve known him. Again, my deepest condolences to his family.

  12. Although David was only in my life for a shorter period of time, it was during that time I truly got to know how special of a person David was. He was very kind, compassionate and genuinely cared about others more so than himself. I was very lucky to have gotten to know David and cross paths with him. I know he will be missed and forever remembered by many people within the community. Prayers for both David’s mom, Darlene and his brother Dustin. Thankful for the memories.

  13. David was the absolute best. Any time that we would run into each other, it would start with a hug and then immediately move into a heart discussion. He was always someone that I would seek out when I was out and about in St. Marys. He had such a beautiful soul. I can just see Jesus standing at the gates to greet him. His absence here on earth will be a huge void. My prayers are with you Darlene and Dustin.

  14. Darlene and Dustin and family, We are so sorry to hear of David’s passing. He was a great guy and loved our area. I was honored to have met him in Leadership Elk County. He had a passion for life. Prayers to you during this difficult time.🙏🏻🙏🏻

  15. I remember taking long walks with David in high school. We were able to talk for hours! I even tell my daughters about those walks and talks, hoping that they find a friend who can listen and share as well and as deeply as David did.

  16. To David’s Mother, brother and his many family and friends, my heart truly goes out to you all. At times like this it’s hard to find any words to share so I will just say I send much love and prayers to all!

  17. My deepest condolences to your family. You were a kind and gentle soul, David. You will be missed. Nonna probably is surprised to see u. She thought the world of you. RIP dear David.

  19. My sincere heartfelt condolences to David’s family. A well written obituary, as it summarized David’s impact on his family, friends and community. I’m sad that I won’t see him nor be able to have our talks….but there are so many very fond memories that will hold a special place in my heart. Fly high my friend and it’s not goodbye, but until we meet again ❤️ Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers 🙏

  21. We will be missing David as he has been a friend of the family for many years. It began when he was in the band in high school when he and my daughters, Becky and Grace, represented SMAHS with him. We even had a cookie that was a favorite of his that we still call David Cookies.

  22. We all were so fond of our long-time friend, David. He was good friends with my daughters, Becky and Grace when they were in school together. We miss you, David.

  23. Darlene and Dustin, I am so sorry for your loss. I didn’t personally know David but I know he was loved by many. Prayers for you and your family during this time of sorrow. God Bless you. Rest in Peace David.

  24. Prayers and strength to his mother Darlene, brother Dustin and his nieces. He will be greatly missed by many!

    With deepest sympathy,
    Jackie and Denny Herbstritt
