Charles H. “Bud” Krug, 88, of 1817 Bucktail Road, St. Marys, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Sunday, July 6, 2025 at Guy and Mary Felt Manor.
He was born May 27, 1937 in St. Marys, son of the late George and Agnes Seelye Krug. Bud was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of St. Marys Area High School, Class of 1955. Bud started his work life as a milkman for Modern Dairy then progressed to co-owner of B&B Sunoco on Brusselles Street. He finally wound up as a contractor, using the skills he learned while he was in high school when he helped his brother build houses. Bud’s carpentry expertise served him well as there was always a project in the works of improvements and additions to his home.
On May 11, 1963 in Queen of the World Church, Bud married Evelyn Krellner, who survives. They were blessed to share sixty-two years of a happy marriage.
In addition to his loving wife, Bud is survived by his children: Christopher Krug, Kimberly Krug (David Chiodo), Theodore Krug, and a bonus daughter, Pam, whom adopted the Krug family; three grandchildren: Josh Krug (Becca), Sheena Aaron (Adam), and Jena Shelander (Melvin); seven great-grandchildren: Kaylynn and Grace Krug, Mary Elizabeth, Isaac, and Zeta Aaron; and Melvin Philip, Jr. and Dennis Shelander; four sisters: Martha Hanes, Helen Heary, Patricia Lang, and “Betty” Krug; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by four sisters: Kathleen Rodgers, Mary Ann Weinzierl, and in infancy, Gertrude and Mary Agnes Krug; six brothers: George, Roger, Joe, Regie, and Robert “Blackie” Krug, and Gerald, in infancy.
Bud had a lot of interests and hobbies. He planted over 100 fruit trees and had a business known as “Krug’s Apples”, where he sold apples, made cider, and was known for his homemade apple pies. In the winter he harvested maple syrup and looked forward to hunting season. His name was drawn for an elk license in the Elk County lottery and another time it was drawn for a bobcat hunting license. Bud was successful in bagging both an elk and a bobcat.
He was a very active man and enjoyed his time playing for the Colts baseball team. He was an avid golfer, scoring a hole-in-one at Bavarian Hills and Brockway Golf Course.
Bud was most proud of his service in the United States Army, where he served as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne from 1960 until 1962 in Fort Campbell, KY.
In retirement, Bud and Evelyn walked many hiking trails in PA and travelled with the Elk County Travelers on trips to many parts of the U.S. They especially enjoyed their trips to Penn’s Cave and Niagara Falls with their great-grandchildren. When Bud and Evelyn took their 1929 Model A for a ride, half of the people wanted a beep of the horn and the other half wanted the two of them to get out of the way!
Per Bud’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral services. Bud and his family are grateful for all of the visits from friends and family during his stay at Guy and Mary Felt Manor.
