Shirley A. Stewart, 88, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of Bucktail Road, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 9, 2025.
She was born May 14, 1936, in Reynoldsville, daughter of the late Arthur and Irene Mulhollan Stewart. She was a graduate of Reynoldsville High School and continued her education at Temple University where she earned her degree. She started her career at the Elk County Home and retired from Elk Haven Nursing Home, where she was the first administrator for the organization.
Shirley is survived by her sister, Pam Schreiber of St. Marys; niece, Deborah Wickett (Steve) of Kersey; nephew, James Pesce, of Thomasville, NC; and several other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Marlene Horn; a brother, Arthur Stewart; and her long-time companion, Mary Gerg.
Shirley was a nurse for the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. She took great pride in her work, was an avid golfer, and enjoyed time spent at camp with her family. She also enjoyed traveling, especially to Florida.
Committal services will be held privately by Shirley’s family.
Memorial donations, if desired, may be mad to Elk County Humane Society, 1029 E. Eschbach Road, St. Marys, PA 15857.

Sorry to hear of Shirley’s passing. She was my first boss and I used to be scared to death of her. Didn’t take too long for that to change. May she rest in peace. My sympathy to the family.
