Rose Ann Whalen | 81

December 10, 1940 - June 1, 2022

Rose Ann Whalen, 81, of 153 Lynch Road, St. Marys, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at her residence, following a brief illness.

She was born December 10, 1940, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Peter J. and Evelyn Emmert Scolari. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1958. She retired from Pfaff’s Market after 22 years and baked pies for Merlin’s during her retirement.

On July 26, 1958, in the Sacred Heart Church, Rose Ann married Carl R. Whalen, Sr., who survives. They were blessed to share 63 years of marriage together.

Along with her husband, Rose Ann is survived by two daughters: Anjanette Catalone (Patrick) of St. Marys and Allison Silfies (Jesse) of York Haven, PA; three sons: Carl R. Whalen, Jr. (Glenda) of Treasure Lake, Gregory Whalen of Cape Coral, FL, and Jay Whalen (Nicole) of Hermitage, PA; nine grandchildren: Jason Whalen, Nicole Grunthaner, Heather McGillicuddy, Brandon Campbell, Cameron Whalen, Cullen Catalone, Dominic Catalone, Isiah Silfies, and Jacob Silfies; five great-grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Rose was preceded in death by three brothers: Donald, Robert, and Peter Scolari. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Rose was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, where she was a committed parishioner. She would volunteer her time for Bingo, Funeral Outreach, and baking. She was a member of the St. Anne’s Society, Rosary Altar Society, Red Hats Society, and Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed games especially playing cards. There wasn’t a game she would turn down and looked forward to her Thursday night Pinochle game with her friends. She loved her family and cherished nothing more than spending time with her family and friends.

There will be no visitation.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Monday, June 6, 2022, at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Thomas Curry, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to Penn Highlands Community Nurses, 757 Johnsonburg Road, Suite 200, St. Marys, PA 15857 or to the Sacred Heart Church, 337 Center Street, St. Marys, PA 15857.
