Rodney J. Mills | 73

January 3, 1948 - August 19, 2021

Rodney J. Mills, 73, of 131 Teaberry Road, St. Marys, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2021, at Elk Haven Nursing Home, after an illness for the past year.

He was born January 3, 1948, in St. Marys, son of the late Chester and Mary Helen Crawford Mills. Rodney was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys Area High School, Class of 1965 and worked at APG Sintered in Wilcox where he retired in 2017.

On February 3, 1972, in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, he married Barbara A. Schatz, who preceded him in death on May 8, 2021.

Rodney is survived by two daughters: Lori Dippold (Brock) of Richmond, VA and Christine Weston (Joe) of Bethel Park; two sons: Matthew Mills (Gloria) of Kersey and Adam Mills (Shannon) of Altoona; seven grandchildren: Josh, Matthew, Brooke, Jordyn, Ethan, Joseph, and Mira; one sister: Amy Mills Maycock (Jay) of Jamestown, NY; one brother: James L. Mills (Suzanne) of Crainseville, PA; and by many nieces and nephews.

Rodney was a member of Queen of the World Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and making wine. He loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren, and his late wife, Barbara.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Monday, August 23, 2021, at 12:00 PM, with Rev. Jeffery Noble, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Monday morning from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to a favorite charity of one’s choice.

  1. I’m late in providing my tribute to Rodney, but still wanted to contribute. I had the pleasure of working with Rod starting in the spring of 1985 at Windfall Products and then later when he had his own business.

    It was always funny with him in the morning. Rod not being a morning person, we were always careful to not tease him too early. Nonetheless, he was always receptive to a good laugh.

    I still remember fondly the day trips I took with him and his family over to the remote areas of Potter and Clinton Counties on Sundays.

    I still think of Rodney often. I miss him dearly. God rest his soul.

  3. Rod taught me a lot when I worked with him at APG (PCC in the day). He was always ready and willing to pass on his knowledge, and I am grateful for what he taught me. Deepest sympathies to all of Rod’s family and friends. He was a great guy and will be missed by all.
