Rita A. Lion, 90, of Boca Raton, FL, and formerly of St. Marys, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021, at Trustbridge Hospice in Boynton Beach, FL.
She was born September 11, 1930, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Herbert and Anna Kronenwetter Lion. Rita attended Sacred Heart School and was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1948.
After graduating high school, Rita went to Chautauqua Lake to learn and better her vocal performance at the Chautauqua Institute of Music. After finishing there she then moved to New York City and entered the Juilliard School for Music. She had a passion to perform, often doing free concerts in her hometown, appearing in television shows, and singing with the USO and on Cruise ships. When she was not performing she would sell advertising for the New York Magazine and Q Magazine.
She is survived by her brother, Wendell Lion and his wife Carol of St. Marys, and by her nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her longtime significant other, Amos E. Blum; two sisters: Salome “Lovey” Kronenwetter and Patricia Kronenwetter; and by a brother, William Lion.
There will be no visitation.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a future date and time to be announced. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
A beautiful and talented lady who will be missed….will always remember the beautiful songs you sang throughout your life…
