Raymond P. Nearing | 75

September 28, 1948 - April 19, 2024

Raymond P. Nearing, 75, of 2075 Horner Road, Wilcox, PA, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, April 19, 2024, after a lengthy illness.  He was lovingly known as Ray-Ray and Eamo by his family and friends.

He was born on September 28, 1948 in Kane, PA to the late Linus and Margaret Pavlina Nearing.  He attended both Wilcox and Johnsonburg Area Schools, graduating from Johnsonburg High School in 1966.  Ray worked at Keystone Powdered Metals for over 40 years.  Ray was a member of the Kane Elks, Kane Country Club, and the Wilcox Sportsmen’s Club.  He enjoyed riding his Harley, bowling, reading, driving his classic cars, and golfing.

He is survived by his daughters, Amy J. McClain and her husband Dean of St. Marys and Brandee R. Nearing and her fiancé, Joe Wolfgang of Johnsonburg; grandchildren: Noah and Sofiya Cherry, Joey Wolfgang, Jimmy, Jake, Jackson, and Kasey McClain; great-grandchildren, Piper McClain and Hudson Schlimm; sisters: Pat Stauffer of Wilcox and Sharon Nearing of Wilcox; his brother, Linie Nearing of Portland Mills; niece, Sarah Coy and her husband, Steven; niece and Goddaughter, Trisha Brendel and her husband, Steve; nephews: Don Wismar and his wife, Julie and Wayne Wismar and his wife, Kathy; niece Kelly Notarriani; many great-nieces and nephews and countless friends.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by brothers, Chuck “Huxie” and Jim “Oats” Nearing; a sister, Carol Wismar; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth “Betty” Nearing; brothers-in-law, James Wismar and James Gulnac; Godparents, Alice and Joe Murray; a niece, Mary Wolf; a sibling in infancy; and many uncles and aunts.

A memorial service will be held privately by the family at a future date. 

Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to the Wilcox Volunteer Fire Department, 84 Lawrence Street, Wilcox, PA 15870; the Wilcox Public Library, 105 Clarion Street, Wilcox, PA 15870; or the Penn Highlands Community Nurses Hospice, 757 Johnsonburg Road, Suite 200, St. Marys, PA 15857.
