Philip G. “Flip” Geyer, Jr., 66, of 431 W. Mill Street, St. Marys, passed away unexpectedly Friday, August 4, 2023 at “The Garage” on Trout Run Road.
He was born February 22, 1957, in St. Marys, son of the late Philip “Snitz” and Gertrude “Gert” Seifert Geyer. Flip was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of St. Marys Area High School, Class of 1975. Flip was committed to his craft at Geyer Transmission, where he worked and owned since 1987.
On January 11, 1985, in St. Marys, Flip married Rose M. Bauer, who survives. Although not long enough, they were blessed to share their love in marriage for 38 years.
In addition to his loving wife, Flip is survived by three daughters: Jacqueline Nesbitt (Cory) of Kersey, Caitlin Geyer (Josh Foster) of St. Marys, and Morgan Mahovlich (Colby) of St. Marys; his son, Matthew Geyer of St. Marys; six grandchildren: Kenadi, Roman, Carson, Levi, Allora, and Kaden; three sisters: Karen Nichol (William) of DuBois, Marci Sanford (Rodney) of Navarre, FL, and Julia Meehan of Bethlehem, PA; three brothers: William Geyer (Donna) of Ridgway, David “Randy” Geyer (Barbara) of St. Marys, and Christopher Geyer (Cynthia) of Ridgway; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Philip was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Geyer and a brother-in-law, Raymond Meehan.
Flip was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, the St. Marys Eagles Club, and the Knights of Columbus. In his younger days he raced motorcycles and enjoyed to hunt and fish. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, and playing horseshoes. Although he was a very hard worker, he was always the life of the party! There was nothing more important to him than his family, especially his grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Wampa”.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Friday, August 11, 2023, at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Samuel Pinheiro, OSB, officiating.
The family will gather briefly prior to Mass around 10:15 AM at the Center Street entrance to church.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to Elk County Humane Society, 1029 E. Eschbach Road, St. Marys, PA 15857.

My sincere condolences to Rose and to Flip’s entire family. Flip was my childhood best friend growing up just down the street on Depot St. We were inseparable. Whether it was playing in the garage behind the Geyer house or spending so many weekends at “the camp” on Kay Fork. Snitz would open up the pop case at the barber shop and get us pops for the trip to the camp and I always got giner ale….so consistently Snitz called me “Jimmy-giner-ale”! So glad that childhood nickname didn’t stick. We would spend hours shooting bows & arrows behind the barber shop at homemade targets hanging from the swing set. Probably our claimed of fame growing up was that Flip & I would get together on the weekends and simply start walking down the RR tracks (in either direction) when we were only 7 or 8 years old. One day we walked all the way to Black Swamps 1/2 way to Ridgway….we thought we found an unknown paradise! One winter weekend walking the tracks toward Emporium we started following the creek instead of the tracks. We crossed the frozen creek numerous times following the tracks of various animals until I tried to cross where there were no tracks and “sploosh”! In I went thru the ice and in the frigid water up to my chin! Flip helped me out and we somehow made it back to our house on Depot St. where we “hid” down in the basement trying to get me dried out and warmed up. I had almost all my clothes dangling on the side of the coal furnace when Flip looked at me and said…”you shouldn’t have crossed where there weren’t any animal tracks” in such a way to make it sound like it was a scientific surety that I wouldn’t have fallen in if there had been tracks in the snow covering the ice. There are so many stories that are going through my mind right now that I could easily write a short novel. Just know that Flip, your beloved husband, father, brother, and “Wampa” meant the world to me as my best friend growing up and we created memories that lasted me a lifetime. Even today, in that great smile of his in photo above I can hear him call my name “Jimmy ginger ale”. With heartfelt sympathy, Jimmy Zernell
