Maynard F. “Butch” Sheley, 80, of 107 Pope Road, St. Marys, lost his battle to lung cancer Friday, April 19, 2024 at Penn Highlands Elk with his family by his side.
He was born February 27, 1944 in Olean, NY, son of the late Maynard W. and Mercedes Haggerty Sheley. He moved to the area in 1966 and provided his expertise to so many in the area as a carpenter, with a specialty in cabinetry.
On April 25, 1987, in St. Marys, Butch married Gail (Hanes) Hanlin, who survives.
In addition to his loving wife, Butch is survived by a son, Shane Sheley (Jacki) of High Point, NC; his daughter, Roberta “Bobbie” Meyer (Gordon) of St. Marys; step-daughter, Vicki Johnson (Scott) of St. Marys; step-son, Anthony Meyer (Tracy) of Winchester, VA; seven grandchildren: Paige Sheley, Rebecca Sheley, Brianna Meyer, Dylan Meyer, Kyla Johnson, Ava Johnson, and Jack Meyer; and four great-grandchildren and his dog Lily.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and James Sheley; and a sister, Marilyn in infancy. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Butch was a veteran of the United States Navy and served on the USS Enterprise and was very proud of his service to his country. Butch retired from West Penn Power after 25 yrs. He was an avid Steelers fan, loved to cook and golf, played the mandolin and accordion and had a lifelong passion of woodworking. Over the years he enjoyed making furniture for his family and friends. Butch’s love for his wife Gail and family was undeniable and he will be missed every day.
Family and friends are invited to a short celebration of life service at 5:00PM on Friday, April 26th, 2024 at the Fine Line Event Center with a social gathering of family and friends of family following until 8:00PM. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery where full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306 or Hahne Cancer Center 100 Hospital Drive, DuBois, PA 15801.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc.

We met Butch and Gail in the Villages. We had so many great times and fond memories of them. Butch will certainly be in our memories.

Sad to hear this news. Butch was a great guy, I first meet Butch at West Penn years ago and I am glad he had a long retirement.
