Mary V. Gahr | 94

April 8, 1927 - July 12, 2021

Mary V. Gahr, 94, of 157 Teaberry Road, St. Marys, and formerly of Skyline Drive, Kersey, passed away Monday, July 12, 2021, at the Elk Haven Nursing Home.

She was born April 8, 1927, in Byrnedale, daughter of the late Stefen and Catherine Murgash Holjencin. Mary spent her childhood growing up in Coalport, PA, attended Coalport Schools, and moved to the Kersey area when she was in her 20’s. She was a retired employee of Powder Metal Products, retiring in 1987.

On May 15, 1954, in Coalport, Mary married Joseph E. Gahr, who preceded her in death on August 2, 2018.

She is survived by her daughter, Catherine Wehler and her husband Gale of St. Marys; her son, Steve E. Gahr and his wife Robin of Kersey; five grandchildren: Carrie Sennett, Julie Curry, Stephenie Benedict, Keith Gahr, and Melinda Stanisch; and by seven great-grandchildren: Maeve Sennett, Camille Sennett, Nathan Benedict, Chloe Benedict, Rhett Gahr, Baker Gahr, and Sadie Jo Stanisch.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by seven brothers: John, Stefen, Robert, Joseph, Richard, William, and Thomas Holjencin. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mary was a member of the St. Boniface Church. Family was her life and she especially loved the little children.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Boniface Church on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Ross Miceli, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Boniface Cemetery.

Visitation will be held in the St. Boniface Church Gathering Space on Wednesday morning, from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Penn Highlands Community Nurses, 757 Johnsonburg Road, Suite 200, St. Marys, PA 15857.

  1. Gahr family: You have our deepest sympathy. Mary was truly a wonderful person. She worked for me at PMP. She always had a smile on her face. Would love meeting Joe and her when out and about. It was always a pleasant conversation. RIP good friend.
