Mark J. Wendel | 56

March 29, 1966 - August 31, 2022

Mark James Wendel, 56, of 106 Fleming Road, St. Marys, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at his camp after a lengthy illness.

He was born March 29, 1966, in St. Marys, son of James Leo and Judith Ann Wendel, who survive of St. Marys.  He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Elk County Christian High School, Class of 1984.  Mark was the owner of the Detail Shop and Antique Corner in St. Marys.

On March 21, 1997, in Las Vegas, Mark married Donna M. Schutz, who survives.  They celebrated 25 years of marriage this year.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mark is survived by his son, Brendan Wendel of St. Marys; and by a brother, Scott Joseph Wendel and his wife Shari of St. Marys.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Allan Dale Wendel.

Mark was a member of the Queen of the World Church.  He enjoyed playing Cinch on Wednesday nights, he loved animals, and enjoyed going to the annual 100 mile yard sale.  He was a lifelong collector of antiques and St. Marys Memorabilia.  He will be greatly missed.

There will be no visitation.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Friday, September 9, 2022, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Jeffery Noble, Pastor, officiating. 

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Elk County Humane Society, 1029 E. Eschbach Road, St. Marys, PA 15857 or the Ridgway Animal Haven, 20 Rocky Top Road, Ridgway, PA 15853.

  5. Dear Donna and entire family, We are so sorry to hear this hard on the heart news, Holding the great card games memories and how he enjoyed keeping that BIG Ace till the last trick!! We think he already has a big Cinch Tournament going on. Still remembering when he and our son Tim were both angling for the AKM hospital bill for bartering potatoes to cover their bills during the potato famine….
