Marion K. Denio | 92

December 9, 1929 - August 24, 2022

Marion Kathryn Denio, 92, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of 1465 Rosely Road, St. Marys, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Elk Haven, after a lengthy illness.

She was born December 9, 1929, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Harold and Esther Schneider Shadd.  She was a lifelong resident of St. Marys where she attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Central High School, Class of 1947.

On May 28, 1949, in the Sacred Heart Church, Marion married Lynn E. Denio, who preceded her in death a day earlier on Tuesday, August 23, 2022.  God had a plan for the two of them and were blessed with over 73 years of marriage.

Marion is survived by two daughters: Ginny Nissel (Jim) of Kersey and Barbara Makufka (William) of St. Marys; three sons: Tom Denio (Denise) of Mechanicsburg, Frank Denio (Margaret) of St. Marys, and Steve Denio (Mary Beth) of Kersey; 10 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and by 12 great-grandchildren; and by one sister-in-law, Toy Shadd.

In addition to her parents, Marion was preceded in death by two sons: Dan and Karl Denio; two grandsons: Matthew and Jesse Denio; three sisters: Eileen Garner, Nancy Wykoff and Wilma Caskey; and by three brothers: Harold, David, and Kenneth Shadd.  Marion was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Marion was a member of the Queen of the World Church and the Altar Society and the St. Mary’s Church Altar Society.  She enjoyed the company of others and was a member of the Rosely Road Card Club where they would meet once every month since 1960. 

There will be no visitation.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, officiating.  Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the St. Marys Public Library, 127 Center Street, St. Marys, PA 15857.

  5. What a long and enduring life. I remember your sweet Mom from back in the 60’s when I came to your house to hang out with Ginny. She was a busy lady taking care of her large family. I remember her beautiful smile too.
