Louise E. Samick | 98

February 22, 1923 - September 18, 2021

Louise E. Samick, 98, of St. Marys, passed September 18, 2021, at home, surrounded by her daughters.

She was born February 22, 1923, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Lawson and Julia Buchheit Renwick.

On August 29, 1945, in the Sacred Heart Church, Louise married James J. Samick, who preceded her in death on February 14, 2003.

She is survived by five daughters: Carolee (Bill) Weisner, Nancy Wrigley, Julie (Stephen) Zuraski, Jane (Scott) Schloder, all of St. Marys, and Mary Jo (Michael) Todoran of Fort Wayne, Indiana; in addition to 16 grandchildren: Eric, Brian, Mark and Curtis Weisner, Tricia Bauer, Amy Zuraski-Carrera, Laura Jack, Ashley Wrigley, Courtney Sherry, Megan Shulik, Chelsea Retzer, Mason Schloder, Emily Todoran, Julie Kearney, Sara Burns, Molly Roman; and 30 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Thomas, Walter, and William Renwick; and by a sister, Mary Anderson.  She was the last member of her immediate family.

At the age of nine, Louise started her singing career with Tri-County bands during the big band era.  She continued singing in high school and as a member of the Sacred Heart choir for 20 years.

After graduating from St. Marys Public High School in 1941, she was employed by Keystone Carbon Company for four years during the war.

Louise enjoyed singing, crochet, bridge club, baking and fudge-making.  She rarely missed her grandchildren’s athletic events and musicals.  For most of her married life, she spent many enjoyable weekends at the family camp, the Schoolhouse.

Her faith was important to her, and as a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church she was active for 50 years as a member of the St. Anne Society as well as the Catholic Daughters of America, and she loved attending St. Emma’s Retreat House in Greensburg for 53 years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Thomas Curry, OSB, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Sacred Heart Church, 337 Center Street, St. Marys, PA  15857 or to Penn Highlands Community Nurses Hospice, 757 Johnsonburg Road, Suite 200, St. Marys, PA  15857.

  1. Louise was a very kind person. You are so very blessed to share her life with you. Many prayers to her family.

  2. Your mom was a wonderful aunt – our family loved her! We saw her about 2 years ago when she was out at Elk Haven. She was happy and doing well and told us many stories about her earlier years. We were surprised to see her at our Aunt Therese’s funeral. Aunt Louise was my Confirmation sponsor back when I was in the 7th grade. I have so many sweet memories of her. Many Christmases I have tried to make drop fudge like Aunt Louise, but it never quite turned out.
We are so sorry for your loss. We are lifting up your mom and your families to God in prayer.

  3. To all the Samick girls and your families…… so sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. She was a wonderful lady in every sense of the word. I remember running through your house and always being met with a smile and thoughtful comment.
She leaves this world with a life well lived. Deepest sympathy and much love, Laura (Fritz) and Ed Hunkele
