Karen A. McClain | 72

February 5, 1950 - July 28, 2022

Karen A. McClain, 72, of 637 Pontzer Avenue, St. Marys, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2022, after a lengthy illness, with her loving family by her side.

She was born February 5, 1950, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Paul and Creta Jackson Manning. She attended St. Marys Area Schools and was a tax professional for H&R Block.

She is survived by her daughters, Amy Shields (Bob) and Heidi McClain, both of St. Marys; her sons, Howard McClain (Kelly) of Ridgway and Dean McClain (Amy) of St. Marys; thirteen grandchildren: Tyler and Dylan Shields (Erin), Gabby Geitner (Alex), Hannah, Colton, Logen, Lukas, Jimmy, Jake, Kasey, Jackson, Damon, and Mason McClain; five great-grandchildren; her sister, Ellen Schloder of St. Marys; two brothers, Paul Manning (Joan) of St. Marys and Bruce Manning (Lora) of Kersey.

In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jordan McClain.

Karen was a very loving and selfless person, who served as a living example of the importance of family, faith, and fortitude. Spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her the most joy. She cared deeply for her family and friends, constantly going the extra mile to make each person feel special, welcomed, and loved. She was the family baker, with cookies, cupcakes and apple pie always at the ready. Handmade Christmas and birthday gifts were her specialty, and she was always the first person on scene when anyone needed a hand. Karen had a significant impact on many area youth through her involvement in the St. Marys Area Band Parents, where she was affectionately known as, “Mama McClain”, and she was always on board for a shopping trip or a game of cards. She will be greatly missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at 10:00AM, with the Rev. Thomas More Sikora, OSB, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
