May 20, 1940 - April 15, 2024

John H. Young, 83, of 524 East Kaul Avenue, St. Marys, passed away Monday April 15, 20234 at Penn Highlands Elk.

He was born May 20, 1940, in St. Marys, son of the late Joseph and Helen Johnston Young.  John was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1958.  He was formerly employed by the St. Marys Daily Press, Metaldyne, Osram Sylvania, and most recently at Lenze and Lenze apartments.

On May 5, 1962 in St. Boniface Church, John married Judy Himes, who survives.  They were blessed to share 61 years of marriage.

Along with his loving wife, John is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Young (Steve Lenze) of St. Marys; two sons: Randall Young (Wendy) of Kersey and Jeffrey Young; four grandchildren: Meagan Rothrock (Derek), Jolene Pyne (Joseph), Amanda Nussbaum (Josh Miller), and Haley Rupprecht (Shane Carr); great-grandchildren: Connor, Dominick, Jayce, Brooke, William, Vinny, Kenady, and one to be expected; two sisters: Victoria Russell (Randy) of Ridgway and Debra Thomas (Gary) of Florida; several nieces and nephews as well as his dear friend and co-worker, Mike Reed.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Gavin; a brother, Thomas Young; and a brother-in-law, Richard Izbinski.

John was proud of his service to his country as a veteran of the United States Navy.  He enjoyed simple pleasures in life and spending time at camp in Benezette.  He loved his dogs and took great pride in his family.  There was nothing more important to John than being a husband, father, grandfather, sibling, and friend.  He will be greatly missed.

Funeral and committal services will be held privately by the family.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
