John A. Mattivi | 54

John A. Mattivi, 54, of 143 Skyline Drive, Kersey, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at his residence.

He was born July 29, 1967, in St. Marys, son of the late John A. and Rita Catalone Mattivi. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys Area High School, Class of 1986. John worked for close to 30 years at American Axle, formerly Metaldyne, and was currently employed for the James H. Cross Company.

John is survived by his fiancée, Cindy Szymanski of Kersey; his step-daughters: Heather VanAlstine (Drew) and Megan Szymanski (Sean Dawson); three step-grandchildren: Mackenzie, Taylor, and Chase; his sisters: Cynthia Benson of Daguscahonda and Jennifer Wolfel (Kevin) of St. Marys; and by two brothers: Timothy Mattivi (Diane) of St. Marys and James Mattivi of Kersey.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Mark Mattivi; and by his brother-in-law, Tracy Benson.

John was a member of the Horton Township Sportsmen’s Club, the Fox Township Firemen’s Club, the VFW, the Eagles, the Moose, and the PFL. He enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, and Sunday drives. John had a very big heart and touched the lives of everyone he met.

There will be no visitation.

Funeral and committal services will be held at a later date and time to be announced.

Out of the many I can honestly say I bet not one could have anything but good things to say about him. He was a kind and genuine person with nothing fake about him, he is and will be truly missed.

  7. Oh Cindy I can’t believe this. You finally met the man of your dreams and was so happy. My husband (who worked with John John at AAM) and I are so sorry for your loss.

  8. So sorry to hear about John John’s death. He was a childhood neighbor and good friend. The group of us neighborhood kids spent a lot of time together building camps in the woods, riding bikes, hanging out in his house in “Grandpa’s Room”, working at the drive-in, etc. My condolences to Cindy, Jennifer, Jimmy and Timmy and also to his current friends and family whom I have not met. He will be missed!

  10. Cindy, I’m so devastated for your loss and his family’s. I wish I had gotten to meet him. You had nothing but good things to say about John and I am so sorry that you finally found the love of your life and we did say a prayer for you last night at Bible study. There are no words to describe how you must be feeling and his family also. We have been friends for 32 yrs and all my love goes out to you. If you need anything day or night reach out to me.   15. I am so sorry for your loss. Jake and I have the best memories of Jon Jon. The many road trips we went on, our many yearly fishing trips to Kish Creek, so much fun just jumping in his van and seeing where we would end up. He will missed by so many. He was truly one of the best people ever!
