James C. “Moose” Tettis, 95, of 237 North St. Marys Street, St. Marys, died Saturday, July 24, 2021, at his daughter’s residence in Las Vegas, NV.
He was born on June 27, 1926 in Ridgway, son of the late Joseph and Lavina (Ross) Tettis. He married Doris L. Nelson on July 6, 1953, in Maryland. She preceded him in death on April 14, 2018. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the American Legion. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a Veteran of WWII. Upon his return from the war, he worked on the St. Marys/Ridgway Road project. He then was employed at Stackpole Carbon Company, followed by the Ridgway Color Company, where he worked for more than 30 years and retired in 1988.
After retirement, Jim enjoyed golfing and hunting. Most days, he was the first one on the golf course at Bavarian Hills, where he commonly walked 9 or 18 holes. He also especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by two daughters, Marina Tettis of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Lucinda Tettis of St. Marys; two sons, Vincent Tettis and his wife Annie of Massachusetts and James G. Tettis and his wife Tammy of St. Marys; eight grandchildren, Jimmi, Peter, Danielle, Corrinne, Samantha, Vincent, Hayden and Gregory; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Beverly MacDonald of Ridgway.
Besides his parents and wife, Jim was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary, at birth; two sisters, Marina Agens and Rosemary Connacher; and two brothers, Joseph Tettis and John “Jack” Tettis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Thomas Curry, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail. Burial will be in the St. Leo’s Cemetery in Ridgway.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Saturday morning, from 9:00 until 10:30 AM.

Mr. Tettis, as I fondly called him, was a super guy. How could he be anything else trying to control Vince and Jimmy!!!!!!! Rest in peace Sir.
