Helen T. Laird, 90, of 213 Bayberry Road, St. Marys, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at her residence after a lengthy illness with her family by her side.
She was born April 29, 1932 in Kersey, daughter of the late Henry and Theresa Jaeger Holtzhauser. She was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Kersey High School, Class of 1950. She was employed at Pure Carbon and assisted at the convent as a cook for 25 years.
On April 23, 1955, in St. Boniface Church, she married Leroy W. Laird, who survives. Together they shared 68 years of marriage.
Along with her loving husband, Helen is survived by two sons: William T. Laird (Rochelle) and James D. Laird (Mary Jo), both of St. Marys; four grandchildren: Angela, Anthony, Alan, and Adam Laird; one sister, Germaine Jacob (Frank) of St. Marys; and by many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Helen was preceded in death by eight sisters: Cecilia Mosier, Mary Kornacki, Anna Holtzhauser, Pauline Calla, Theresa Weidenboerner, Agnes Dahlkemper, Margaret Ehrensberger, and Jean Mawn; and three brothers: Thomas, James, and Raymond Holtzhauser.
She was a dedicated mother, wife, and a devout Catholic. She was a member of the Queen of the World Church and was proud to be honored as the Holy Family of St. Boniface in 1951. She enjoyed her time outdoors especially fishing and found great joy in the kitchen while she baked.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 10:00AM at the Queen of the World Church with the Rev. Jeffery Noble, Pastor, celebrating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Thursday, April 27, 2023 from 4:00PM until 6:00PM.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to a favorite charity of one’s choosing.
