Grace E. Arnold, 83, of 648 Cedar Road, St. Marys, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at Penn Highlands Elk after a brief illness.
She was born July 1, 1938, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Jerome and Catherine Hasselman Erich. Grace was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1956. She was a lifelong resident of St. Marys and took great pride in her work with Erich Rental, Inc., a company that her father started and one in which she contributed to up until her passing.
She is survived by her twelve children: Coleen Kronenwetter (Steven) of Weedville, Ann Ulrich (Jamie) of Woodland, PA, Kathryn Collins (Gordon) of Hickory, NC, Duane Bucher (Nancy) of St. Marys, Edward Bucher (Lesa) of St. Marys, James Arnold (Chris) of Marietta, GA, Rita Schaefer (Harry) of West Jefferson, NC, Karen Scull (George) of Kersey, Joseph Arnold (Andrea) of Fort Washington, PA, William Arnold of St. Marys, Laura Claypool (Brian) of St. Marys, and David Arnold (Karen) of North Wales, PA; by 34 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren; and by her brother Harold Erich (Betty) of Emporium.
Grace was blessed with two loving husbands in her life. Her first husband, Edward J. Bucher, an appliance repairman, ditch-digger and square dance caller, preceded her in death on Easter Sunday, March 26, 1978. Her second husband, Norbert A. Arnold, a powder metal guru, author and designer, preceded her in death on April 4, 2014. Along with her parents, Ed, and Norb, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jerome Erich, and a grandson, Seth Kronenwetter.
Grace was a devout Catholic and a woman of deep faith. She loved all her family and put nothing above them except perhaps her faith. She was a member of Queen of the World Church and a contributing member to our community. She loved family vacations, her yard and flowers, enjoyed square dancing with the Bells of St. Marys, “advising” family members on what golf clubs to use, and was an avid & skilled card player – a bi-weekly 500 Bid player for over 60 years. She was so excited with a good hand and woe be it if you messed up her bid no matter the game…or rolled better dice in Shut-the-Box. She adored Hallmark movies and was an avid Pirates and Steelers fan. She will be truly missed by all.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Friday, December 31, 2021, at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Jeffery Noble, Pastor, officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the Queen of the World Facebook page. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to Queen of the World Church, 134 Queens Road, St. Marys, PA 15857.
To the family of Grace Bucher Arnold, Sending our deepest sympathy. May she rest in peace and God comfort you in your loss.

Kathy, I did not know your MOM but if she were anything like you she was the best. Me and Jerry love you and if you need to talk I am here. We love you very much and we are so sorry for your loss. Love you, Phyllis and Jerry
I was Grace’s hairdresser for many years. I met her through Norb who was my husband’s mentor from Keystone Carbon. She was a wonderful woman and sweetest person I know. What I most loved about her was her understanding of human nature and she always saw the best in people. I valued her friendship and enjoyed our many talks. She will definitely be missed. 💕😢
Grace was one of the best “mom’s” I knew when I needed one. She and Ed were so welcoming to all of us. My heart is saddened to hear of her passing
So sorry Kathy for your loss… you are in our prayers 🙏🏻🙏🏻
To our family,
Aunt Grace was a force to behold. Such a role model throughout my life. From taking us Square dancing as children to playing cards at Gram Erich’s house, to laying flowers at mother Mary’s statue every year.
I’m so sorry for everyone’s loss and please know I’m thinking of you guys.
Jen Erich
Kathy, my heart goes out to you in the loss of your mom here on earth. I enjoyed visiting with her and helping her when she was down here with you and Gordon. I know you will greatly miss her because she will always be your mom. Praying for all of you especially during this hard time. Know that I love you. Nancy (NC)
STEVE, COLEEN and families: My most sincere sympathy and prayers to all for your loss.
Grace was such a wonderful person. She was kind of heart and always smiling when you met her out and about. I am honored to know her. We shared common ground serving Queen of the World in many ways. She was an asset to this community and she will be greatly missed by many!
May the Holy Spirit bring all of your family peace of heart as another soul goes to heaven.
We have fond memories of Grace, from the 1970’s, when your family camped and square danced at Yester Yen Campground. Our sincerest sympathy.
Lester and Karen Tibbetts

Sorry to hear about her passing. She was always a nice lady who I didn’t see often, but she always remembered my name. Pete
In reading the obituary, I see that Grace led a very full life. She was truly blessed. My sympathy to the entire family and especially to Laura and Jim.
Take care,

I was saddened to hear of Grandma Grace’s passing. She was a great lady and the only Grandma I ever got to know and spend time with. I’ll always remember our intense games of Cinch, playing Yahtzee and going to Treasure Lake when I was a kid. She will be missed.
