Gail H. Sheley | 74

July 16, 1950 - April 16, 2025

Gail H. Sheley, 74, of 107 Pope Road, St. Marys, passed away peacefully after fighting a long hard battle with cancer with the utmost strength on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at her residence.

She was born July 16, 1950, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Walter W. and Josephine M. “Josie” Leithner Hanes.  Gail was a graduate of St. Marys Area High School, Class of 1968 and spent a part of her life in Indiana and Florida before moving back to St. Marys.

Following the death of her husband, Donald Hanlin, in 1985, Gail was blessed to meet and marry the late Maynard “Butch” Sheley on April 25, 1987.  He preceded her in death on April 19, 2024.

Gail is survived by her daughter, Vicki Johnson (Scott) of St. Marys; her son, Anthony Meyer (Tracy) of Winchester, VA; step-daughter, Roberta Meyer (Gordon) of St. Marys; step-son, Shane Sheley (Jacki) of High Point, NC; seven grandchildren: Brianna Meyer, Dylan Meyer, Kyla Johnson, Ava Johnson, Jack Meyer, Paige Sheley, and Rebecca Sheley; four great-grandchildren; sisters: Susan Schreiber of Villages, FL, Sandra Mattivi (Dick) of Kersey, and Mary Jo Hoffman (John) of St. Marys; brothers: Thomas Hanes (Marlene) of St. Marys and Wally Hanes (Trudi) of North Carolina; many nieces and nephews; and her loyal dog, who never left her side, Lily.

In addition to Donald and Butch and her parents, Gail was preceded in death by a daughter, Katrina Jo Meyer, in infancy.

Gail loved her family and friends.  Her “happy place” was in her kitchen preparing food for everyone.  Her family, especially her children and grandchildren, were her pride and joy and she will be greatly missed.

Family and friends are invited to visit with Gail’s family at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home, 169 Center Street, St. Marys, 15857 on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 from 11:00AM until 12:00PM.  A few words in reflection of Gail’s life will be spoken by the family at 12:00PM at the funeral home.

Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to 3 Breastketeers, c/o Darlene Eckert, 102 Elk Road, St. Marys, PA 15857 or to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hyland Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306.
