Florence “DeeDee” W. Azzato, 96, a resident of Pinecrest Manor, and formerly of 196 Sara Road, St. Marys, passed away Monday, October 11, 2021, at Pinecrest Manor.
She was born December 14, 1924, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Benjamin G. and Mary Ann Goetz Wortman. Florence had her Baptism, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, and Marriage at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was a “Golden Grad”, graduating from Central Catholic High School, Class of 1942.
On June 5, 1948, in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Florence married Raymond A. Azzato, of Weedville, who preceded her in death on June 29, 2004.
Florence was a member of the Queen of the World Church and the Rosary Altar Society. She loved her Catholic faith and her family. She enjoyed antiques, lunch with the “lunch bunch”, writing poetry, and playing the piano. Florence previously worked at Sylvania and Stackpole in St. Marys, as well as Sylvia’s Fashion Store and Judy’s Fashion Store in Emporium.
She is survived by son, Steve (Lori) Azzato of Erie; daughter, Maria Aaron of Emporium; son, David (Pamela) Azzato of Harrisburg; son, Randy (Erin) Azzato of Cape Cod, MA; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and by two sisters: Rita Zamboldi of Linden, MI and Louise Meier of Larkspur, CO.
In addition to her husband and parents, Florence was preceded in death by her daughter, Lia Anne Carter Luciani; an infant son, Paul Christopher Azzato; two sisters: Alice Marie Magistrelli and Mary Jane “Nookie” Salter; and by six brothers: Ivan Wortman, Raymond Wortman, Regis “Wheatie” Wortman, Leo “Lee” Wortman, Father Ildephonse Wortman, OSB, and Gervase “Chub” Wortman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Mary’s Church on Friday, October 15, 2021, at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Peter Augustine Pierjok, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday morning, from 10:00 until 10:45 AM.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Elk County Catholic School System, 600 Maurus Street, St. Marys, PA 15857.
She was such a beautiful lady. My deepest sympathy to her family.
Dee Dee, you were always so kind. From the first day you met me, you treated me like family. May you rest in peace.
