Edwin F. “Pike” Wittman, 87, of 607 Virginia Road, St. Marys, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Pinecrest Manor.
He was born August 30, 1936, in St. Marys, son of the late Edwin and Ethel Woods Wittman. Pike was a lifelong resident of the area, a graduate of St. Marys Area High School, Class of 1954, as well as a 1958 graduate of Villanova University. Pike joined GTE Sylvania after graduation where he served as Plant Controller until retirement. In addition, he taught accounting at Penn State DuBois for several years. Following retirement, Pike and his brother entered the powdered metal industry by opening Elk Metals.
On August 17, 1957, in the Sacred Heart Church, Pike married Sallie A. Fox, who survives. He is also survived by his daughters: Wendy Wittman of Pearland, TX and Amy Broome (Barry) of Fayetteville, AR; a granddaughter, Hallie Broome; his sister, Barbara Werner of St. Marys; and by two brothers: John Wittman of St. Marys and Michael Wittman (Marcie) of Centre Hall.
In his teenage years, Pike was known for playing football for the Flying Dutchmen. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was inducted into the prestigious Order of the Arrow. He was an avid golfer and a private pilot. Pike loved hunting and fishing and was happiest when at camp with his brothers and nephews. He enjoyed listening to music and playing the harmonica. Tending to his orchard provided Pike with hours of enjoyment and his family and friends with delicious apples.
A Funeral Service will be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Saturday morning, from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
