Donna Elaine Girts | 75

February 26, 1950 - March 1, 2025

Donna Elaine Girts, 75, of 106 Nancy Lane, Kersey, passed away peacefully following a lengthy illness Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Nelson’s Golden Years in DuBois. 

She was born February 26, 1950 in DuBois, daughter of the late Benedetto and Ida Anderson Palumbo.  She was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1968.  Donna worked for the St. Marys School District, first at the high school, then at Fox Township Elementary School as the school secretary.

On January 9, 1990, in Las Vegas, Donna married Dean Girts, who survives.  Together they shared thirty-five years of love, laughter, and a wonderful marriage.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children: Arthur Kear (Amber) of Hazleton, PA, Scott Girts (JoAnn) of Ridgway, Terry Khoury (John) of DuBois, and Tracy (Chip) Carnovale of Kersey; nine grandchildren: Maddie Kear, Gabe Kear, Jessica Santiso (Frankie), Josh Girts (Jenna), Emile Khoury (Nancy), Samantha Schulz (Evan), Kali Carnovale (Dustin Larkin), Kara Nelson, (Dylan), and Karly McLaughlin (Joey); eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers: Larry Palumbo (Paula) of Glendale, AZ and Ben Palumbo (Donna) of Treasure Lake; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Palumbo.

Donna enjoyed travelling with Dean on many cruises, bus trips, and driving out west on numerous adventures.  She also enjoyed the game of golf and was a member of the Bavarian Hills Flower League.  Donna took great enjoyment crocheting.  She would make many beautiful blankets for family and friends.

Funeral services will be held privately by her family.

  1. Dean, just learned of Donna’s passing. I know there were health issues, last time l saw her she was the same friendly bubbly woman l will always remember from school. That is how will always remember her. My condolences old friend. So very sorry.

  2. To Dean and all her family members, children, and grandchildren. I worked with Donna for many years and I know in my heart she is now in heaven with another friend of ours, Ellen Lenze.
