Donald C. Ginther, 73, of 327 Main Street, Kersey, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at his residence.
He was born April 20, 1949, in St. Marys, son of the late Earl and Grace McQuone Ginther. Don was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys Area High School, Class of 1968.
After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1968 until 1971 in the Vietnam War. While serving, he earned the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and was an Expert with the Rifle. Upon Don’s discharge from the Army, he returned home and worked for the St. Marys Box Company, retiring after nearly 40 years of service.
On July 14, 1973, in the Queen of the World Church, Don married Carol L. Lecker, who preceded him in death on December 26, 2021. They were blessed with 48 years of marriage.
He is survived by his two daughters: Dawn Erich (Christopher) of Ridgway and Julie Lundy (Casey) of North Carolina; two sons: Russ Ginther (Lupita) of Arizona and Neil Ginther (Caryn) of Wilcox; and by 12 grandchildren: Jared, Amber, Maxwell, Austin, Lindsey, Ian, Paige, Tyson, Mia, Gabriella, Ava, and Hoak.
In addition to his wife and parents, Don was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Ginther, who passed away January 10, 2022. He was the last member of his immediate family.
Don was a member of the St. Boniface Church as well as the American Legion Post 511 in Dagus Mines and the Fox Township Volunteer Fire Department. He also served as a Little League coach for many years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Boniface Church on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Kevin Holland, Pastor, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the Fox Township Servicemen’s Burial Detail. Burial will be in the St. Boniface Cemetery.
Visitation will be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday, September 2, 2022, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM.
