Donald A. Dippold | 92

November 14, 1930 - April 6, 2023

Donald A. Dippold, 92, of 627 Sunset Road, St. Marys, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2023, after a brief illness with his family by his side.

He was born November 14, 1930, in St. Marys, son of the late Herbert and Mary Woelfel Dippold.  Donald was a lifelong resident of the area, attended St. Marys Schools, and proudly served his country in the United States Army.

On June 18, 1955, in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, he married the late Mary J. Simbeck who preceded him in death on November 23, 2019.  They were blessed to share 64 years of marriage together.

He is survived by two sons, Mark J. Dippold and his wife Marcy and Michael J. Dippold and his wife Anne, both of St. Marys; six grandchildren: Melissa Quagliani (Mark), Eric Dippold, Michael Dippold, Victoria Dippold, Matthew Dippold, and Thomas Dippold; two great-granddaughters, Gianna and Sophia Quagliani; three sisters: Marjorie Auman of St. Marys, Sr. Mary James, OSB of Bakerstown, and Jeanne Gaskill of St. Marys; a brother, John Dippold (Carol) of St. Marys; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Auman and two brothers, Thomas Dippold and Raymond Dippold in infancy.

Donald’s faith was very important to him, and he was a member of the St. Marys Catholic Church his entire life. He dedicated his time to serving masses as an altar boy, acting as a custodian maintaining the original school building, and attending to any task and needs of the Sisters at the convent. He was very proud to be the person who pulled the ropes in the bell tower that rang the church bells at the appointed times. Don retired from Stackpole in 1991 after 44 years working as a pipe fitter. His family was of utmost importance to Don; the family enjoyed years of traveling the country in their camper. Don’s camp was special to him, a place where he and his family spent countless hours together. Don and Mary were inseparable even in the enjoyment they experienced as motorcycle enthusiasts. They were members of the Brick Collector’s Association; in fact, the bricks on the camp’s property are the results of several years of collecting during their many trips together.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Friday, April 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Thomas More Sikora, OSB, Pastor, officiating.  Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday, April 14, 2023 from 9:00 AM until 10:15 AM.

Memorials if desired may be made to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 315 Church Street, St. Marys, PA 15857.
