Deloris M. Mertz, 92, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home, formerly of 221 Beacon Road, St. Marys, passed away, Monday, September 5, 2022, at Elk Haven Nursing Home.
She was born May 12, 1930 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Frank and Caroline Schaberl Seelye. Deloris was a lifelong resident of the area. She was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1948. She was a former employee of Kantar’s Department Store, the Peacock Restaurant, and Stackpole Carbon Company where she retired in 1992 after 25 years of employment with the company.
On December 31, 1949, in St. Benedict’s Church, in Daguscahonda, Deloris married Richard C. Mertz, who preceded her in death on September 1, 1991.
She is survived by two daughters: Tina Sorg and Patricia Schreiber (Bruce) both of St. Marys; four sons: Richard Mertz of St. Marys, Lawrence Mertz (Karen) of St. Marys, John Mertz (Kathy) of St. Marys, and Steven Mertz (Alice) of Corsica, PA; eighteen grandchildren: Richard Mertz, Ronnie Mertz, Jamie Mertz, Mike Mertz, Scott Mertz, Dan Mertz, Pamela Feldbauer, Jedidiah Sorg, Jake Sorg, Carrie Klink, Cory Schatz, Adam Schatz, Amanda Lenze, Lisa Sutton, Donna Eckert, Dale Meyer, Barbara Yeany, and Lynn Switzer; forty-six great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Nadine Brosky of Johnsonburg and Carol Cox (Cecil) of Corsica; and by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Deloris was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Marcia Runyan and her son-in-law, Richard Sorg.
Deloris was a member of the Queen of the World Church and the Moose Club. She enjoyed camping, crocheting, and gardening. She would look forward to lunch with her lady friends and cherished each moment spent with her family, particularly her great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at 10:00AM, with the Rev. Jeffery Noble, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, from 4:00PM until 7:00PM.
