David E. Nelson, Jr. | 89

David E. Nelson, Jr. 89, of 1015 Windfall Road, St. Marys, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2025, at his residence.

He was born November 27, 1935, in Ridgway, son of the late David Nelson Sr. and Susan Pisaneschi Riccadonna.  He was a graduate of Bennett’s Valley High School before enlisting in the United States Marine Corp.  He was a proud Marine, serving his country during the Korean Conflict.  David was employed with Jay Township as a roadmaster and former supervisor.

On July 19, 1986, in Weedville, David married Katherine Prokop, who survives.  They were blessed with thirty-eight years of marriage.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Susan Oliveira of Arizona and Denise Gregory (Sam) of DuBois; two sons: Gary Nelson (Cathy) of Texas and David Nelson (Maria) of Arizona.  Six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two half-sisters: Aileen Mattiuz of Kersey and Joyce Kearney of Force.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by two brothers, Vincent Nelson and one in infancy.

David was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Bennett’s Valley American Legion and enjoyed playing “Euchre” there on Friday nights.

There will be no visitation, and services will be held privately.

Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to the Bennett’s Valley American Legion Post 978, 19612 Bennett’s Valley Highway, Weedville, PA 15868.
