Clifford J. Pfoutz | 85

December 16, 1937 - December 14, 2023
Clifford J. Pfoutz, 85, of 631 Virginia Road, St. Marys, passed away surrounded by his family, Thursday, December 14, 2023 at Penn Highlands Elk.

He was born December 16, 1937 in St. Joseph’s Convent, St. Marys, son of the late Maynard and Anna Brennen Pfoutz.  He was a lifelong resident and contributor to the area and his country.  Cliff was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1956.  He then served his country in the United States Marine Corp.  Following his military service, he was employed at Keystone Carbon for over 40 years where he retired as a machinist.

On May 9, 1959, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Cliff married the late Patricia A. Frey, who preceded him in death on December 1, 1998.

Cliff is survived by his three daughters: Jean Marie Wingard (Larry) of St. Marys, Vivian Fisher of Johnsonburg, and Lisa Werneth (Michael) of St. Marys; his two sons: Aaron Pfoutz (Ann Marie) of St. Marys and Roy Pfoutz (Janet) of St. Marys; 15 grandchildren: Brittany, Larissa, Mya, Nicholas, Andrea, Laura, Anna, Andrew, Tricia, Kelly, Kevin, Ryan, Stacie, Cain, and Pilar; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Cliff was preceded in death by a grandson, Kenneth Hosack.

Cliff was an avid gardener, fisherman, and hunter.  He was a member of the PFL and CMF, of which he was a long time board member.  He was active in local politics and was a former Benzinger Township Supervisor.  He was a fervent reader of books, particularly, historical, political, a good mystery, and the Word of the Lord.  He most especially loved his family, the church, and his Savior Jesus Christ.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Monday, December 18, 2023 at 10:00AM with the Rev. Thomas Curry, OSB, celebrating and the Rev. Thomas More Sikora concelebrating.  Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

  16. Cliff will be sadly missed. My late husband, Charlie enjoyed their time serving on the board at the CMF. Charlie learned a lot about gardening from Cliff.
