Obituaries/Viewings

Charles E. Hullihen | 89

September 11, 1934 - December 12, 2023

Charles E. “Chuck” Hullihen, 89, of 128 Comet Road, St. Marys, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at his residence, surrounded by his family.

He was born September 11, 1934, in Bradford, son of the late Milford Hullihen and Leah Van Houtte Hullihen Grasser.  Chuck was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys Area Schools before entering the United States Army and serving in Japan.  He was employed at Pure Carbon, where he met his loving wife of 66 years, prior to working at St. Marys Tool and Die, where he retired in 1999.

On August 17, 1957, in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ridgway, Charles married June Ellen Nelson, who survives.

Along with his wife June, Chuck is survived by two daughters: Lori Hullihen Zimmett (Dale Wolfe), of St. Marys and Debbie Hullihen McDonnell (Martin), of Weedville; five grandchildren: Michael Dinsmore, Dustin Dinsmore, Eric Zimmett, Sean Zimmett, and Bobbi Jo Erickson; 9 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Karen Newpher (Denny) of North Carolina; and a brother-in-law, John “Jack” Donachy of St. Marys.

In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Donachy, and his brother Frank Hullihen.

Chuck’s main mission in life was to care for his family and found the most joy during family gatherings.  He enjoyed yardwork, antiques, and relaxing on the breezeway.  He and June owned an antique store and had a knack to find unique items to sell and add to his private collection.  He was the kind of guy who could fix or create anything.  He was proud of the family that he and June raised and will be greatly missed.

There will be no visitation.

Funeral services for Chuck will be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Monday, December 18, 2023 at 11:30 with Pastor David Pflieger, Hospice Chaplain, officiating.  Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Serviceman’s Burial Detail.  Burial will follow in Oakmont Cemetery.

Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to Community Nurses Hospice, 757 Johnsonburg Road, Suite 200, St. Marys, PA 15857.

  1. Rest Charles, aka “Chuck”, until you hear at dawn, the low, clear reveille of God. Thank you for your service to this nation. U.S. Army.

  2. What a great man! I live right by Chuck and remember as a kid putting fish in his pond behind his house. We often talked when I would see him and occasionally he would come to my house when a tree fell on his property. RIP, Chuck! You will surely be missed. Prayers to his wife and the rest of the Hullihen family. Deepest sympathy.

  3. Lori, sorry to hear about your Dad. May his soul rest in peace. May you and your family find peace.

  4. Mrs. Hullihen, Debbie, and Lori; I am so sorry for your loss. May Jesus bring you peace. I remember spending loads of time with your family when we were younger. Such wonderful times! You have a most wonderful and loving family. I wish you many happy memories and a beautiful Christmas!
