Catherine A. Donachy, 93, a resident of Pinecrest Manor and formerly of 136 Wendel Road, St. Marys, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2022, at Pinecrest Manor after a brief illness.
She was born March 1, 1929, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Charles E. and Catherine Klein O’Connor. Catherine was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1947. She was a former employee of Pure Carbon and spent many years as a waitress at the Royal Motel.
On August 23, 1947, in the Sacred Heart Church, Catherine married the late Charles J. Donachy, who preceded her in death on October 16, 2014.
She is survived by two daughters: Carolyn Zilkofski (Roger) of Johnsonburg and Deanna Young (Jim) of St. Marys; six grandchildren: Janis Young, Eric Young (Sabina), Barbara Groba (Steven), Julie Young, Jeff Schatz (Jen Huber), and Debbie Schatz (John Naglich); five great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Patricia McEwen O’Connor of Silver Spring, MD; and by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her brother, Charles M. O’Connor. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Catherine was a member of the Queen of the World Church. She was an avid golfer in her younger days and enjoyed traveling by car to see different areas of the country. She was a tremendous baker, always having a freezer full of cookies at her house. She enjoyed sewing and was very crafty; she could create anything out of Popsicle sticks. A perfect Manhattan was an appropriate way to complete a good day.
Visitation will be held at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Saturday, April 9, 2022 from 9:00AM until 10:00AM.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at 10:30 AM, with the Rev. Jeffery Noble, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Elk County Humane Society, 1029 E. Eschbach Road, St. Marys, PA 15857 or to the Penn Highlands Community Nurses Adult Day Services, 625 Maurus Street, St. Marys, PA 15857.
Our hearts go out to you and your family with the loss of your dear loved one. There are no words to take away sadness when you lose someone you love. In our time of deepest need the tenderness of God is a refuge like no other. He alone understands our sorrows and draws near in love to wipe away our tears
When my mother passed away, we found the resurrection hope very comforting.
May the resurrection hope sustain you. A loved one lost can grieve the heart, and makes us yearn for tomorrow, when Jehovah will keep the promise he made of no pain, no death, no sorrow found at Revelation 21:4.
I met Catherine at Silver Creek when my dad resided there. I enjoyed talking with her and it helped me with having my dad there, knowing how nice she was. Really enjoyed seeing her there when I visited.
So sorry for your loss. Prayers for you and your family.
Deanna,
Sending thoughts of sympathy in the passing of your mother.
May she rest in God’s Peace with her loved ones in Heaven.
Deanna and family,
We are so sorry for the loss of your mother. May our daily thoughts and prayers bring you comfort and peace.
