Adeline G. Cheatle | 99

February 19, 1923 - June 3, 2022

Adeline G. Cheatle, 99, of 140 Sara Road, St. Marys, passed away Friday, June 3, 2022 at Penn Highlands Elk, after a brief illness.  Adeline was the nexus that held her family together and a driving force in the lives of her children and grandchildren.  She will be sorely missed.

She was born February 19, 1923, in St. Marys, daughter of the late William and Clare Eckert Groll.  Adeline was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys schools.  She spent the majority of her working career at Sylvania and Carbon City and was a member of the Queen of the World Church.

On June 17, 1944, in the St. Mary’s Monastery, Adeline married the late Walter L. Cheatle, who preceded her in death on June 18. 2013.

She is survived by three sons: Walter A. Cheatle of State College, Donald E. Cheatle (Ann) of Egg Harbor Twp., NJ, and Chester L. Cheatle (Diane) of St. Marys; four grandchildren: Aleisha Benoit (Jason), Monica Brunetti (Stephen), Amanda Detsch (Jason), and Amy Brunner (Justin); nine great-grandchildren; and by a sister Rita Huey Croyle of St. Marys.

In addition to her husband and parents, Adeline was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Rote; three brothers: William Groll, Alexander Groll, and Frederick Groll; and by a daughter-in-law, Sharon Cheatle.

Adeline was quite proficient on her computer and embraced technology throughout her entire life.  She was a spitfire and always spoke what was on her mind.  She liked to cook and bake especially around the holidays.  Adeline put her family, especially her grandchildren, above anything else.  She loved her family and would always have a little present for her grandchildren whenever she would see them.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Thursday, June 9, 2022, at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Jeffery Noble, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Thursday, June 9, 2022, from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail, 168 Center Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 or to the Christian Food Bank, P.O. Box 1033, St. Marys, PA 15857.
